English is a global language and it is one of the important languages in the world. English literature is a vast subject that includes poems and prose written by different writers or authors. The syllabus of CBSE Class 10 English is vast and in order to score well, you should have in-depth knowledge about all the chapters in the textbook. There are altogether three sections of CBSE Class 10 English. They are –First Flight, Footprints without Feet Supplementary Reader, and Words and Expressions-2. It includes reading, writing skills with grammar, literature textbook, and extended text reading. The exam is divided into four sections. If you really want to score good marks in English, you have to put effort into the grammar section because it is the most scoring topic.

  • Practice your grammar: Grammar is the most scoring topic of the English subject. If you write the correct answers, you will get full marks. You should know the grammatical rules of the English language. Practice nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, determiners, tenses, voices, and modals properly. 
  • Writing skills: A good command of English is vital to score more marks. You should have the skills of creative writing. You have to write articles, essays, notices, letters, etc. You have a good chance of scoring more marks if you have a command of English writing.
  • Comprehension: If you have a good conceptual understanding, you will be able to score well in the comprehension section. You should also improve your vocabulary by reading books, articles, and newspapers.

 Here are some tips on how to prepare for CBSE Class 10 English Exam

  • Know your English Syllabus: Before preparing for your English Exam, know the syllabus. CBSE class 10 English syllabus consists of three books-First Flight, class 10 English Footprints without Feet, and Words and Expression. Go through the books once and write down the syllabus on paper. 
  • Prepare a timetable: You should prepare a good timetable according to your convenience. If you study the subject in a systematic manner regularly, it will be easier for you before the exam. Study all the sections of the subject and give equal attention to it. Do not focus on one single section of the subject.
  • Read the textbooks: It is very important to read your textbooks thoroughly. Read each and every chapter and do not miss out on any chapter. Reading your textbooks will give you in-depth knowledge about the chapter. It will help you to enrich your vocabulary. You will be able to use different words in your essay, article, letter, etc. Make it a habit to read one or two chapters regularly.
  • Practice Writing: You should improve your writing skills so that you can score well. You should be able to write without any grammatical errors. You can practice answer writing every day to develop your writing skills. You should know how to write creatively. Try to write articles, essays, and notices to test the level of your writing.
  • Solve Sample Papers: Solving the sample papers will make you aware of the level of your preparation. You will know where you lack and where you do not. Also, you can solve previous years’ papers to score well in the English exam. It will make you aware of the exam pattern. You will come to know about the marks distribution.
  • Online materials: Materials that are available on the internet can be of great use to you. It will help you to prepare notes. If you do not understand any chapter, you can take the help of online materials. Various tutorials are also available to help you with prose and poems.
  • Prepare notes on your own: If you write notes on your own, you will also be able to improve your writing skills. If your teacher has explained any chapter in the classroom, jot down the important points. You can come home and prepare notes. It will help you on the days prior to the exam. Your notes will be already prepared, so you do not have to worry before the exam.
  • Revise your chapters properly: Revision is essential before exams or else you will forget the concepts that you have learned. You should also revise the chapters which are already finished, on a daily basis. Do not keep everything before the exam. You will not be able to manage everything before the exam, so revise your chapters daily. 
  • Clear your doubts: If you have any doubts regarding anything, you should ask for help from your teacher or friend. They will be able to guide you. It is better to clear your doubts and queries before your English exam. 
  • Reference Books: Take the help of reference books while solving sample or exercise papers. There are NCERT English class 10 reference books available that can provide you guidance.
  • Take rest: It is important to take some rest in between your study hours. This will help you to relax and reduce your stress. It will help you to remember your lessons well without any difficulty.
