Week 4: Club Content

  1. Ice breaker: Try to get back in the mindset of a 4th/5th grader.  Visit each of the 6 tables (try to meet different people);  discuss and write down your answers for each question. 
    1. What was your favorite book or movie as a 4th/5th grader? 
    2. What was your favorite sport or game (to watch or play)?
    3. What was the best thing that happened to you as a 4th/5th grader? Or a favorite event?
    4. Would you have joined the Scratch club as a 4th/5th grader if it had been your choice?  Why or why not? What would have been the best way to motivate you in this club?
    5. As a 4th/5th grader, what types of Scratch projects would you have liked?
  2. Whole class: (5:45 - 6:00)
    1. First day experiences -- anything particularly well?  any catastrophes? do you need to do anything differently next club?
      1. Pick representative from your team different from last week 
      2. Connect to previous club: either "Similar to the previous club, we also had problems with X..." or "Unlike the previous club that experienced X, we had experience Y..."
  3. Computational Thinking: Concepts and Practices
    1. What do you think we should cover?  (keeping Scratch...)
  4. Homework:
    1. Personal weekly reflections
    2. Post weekly lesson plan after Week 2 club (per group)
    3. Read about PB and J (quiz)
    4. Read http://scratched.gse.harvard.edu/resources/new-frameworks-studying-and-assessing-development-computational-thinking and take "quiz"
  5. Work time
    1. Remember to look over resources and pick them by tonight (per group)
