Course Overview
We welcome anyone who wants to learn more about stream health and water quality monitoring to take this free course. Whether you are interested in becoming a WAV volunteer, are a returning volunteer who wants a brief refresher, are a student, or are here for personal growth, we welcome you!
Course agenda and learning outcomes
Module 1: Introduction and Overview
- Be familiar with the role and responsibilities of a WAV Volunteer.
- Know how to find your local WAV Coordinator in your county.
Module 2: WAV Baseline Monitoring - Learning the Science
- Describe the importance and impact of the 5 baseline parameters for stream health: temperature, transparency, dissolved oxygen, stream flow, and biotic index.
- Be familiar with ways to stop the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) and how to report an AIS find.
Module 3: WAV Baseline Monitoring - Learning the Methods
- Be able to describe the monitoring methods for each of the 5 baseline parameters for stream health.
- Be prepared to attend an in-person field training where you will participate in hands-on learning and practice the WAV baseline monitoring methods.
Module 4: Course Wrap-up
- Understand the next steps to take to become an active WAV volunteer.
