- Be familiar with ways to stop the spread of aquatic invasive species.
- Be able to describe the monitoring methods for each of the 5 baseline monitoring stream health assessments.
- Be prepared to attend an in-person training where you will participate in hands-on learning and practice of WAV baseline monitoring methods.
Here are your next steps to become a WAV Volunteer!
-
-
- Locate and connect with a WAV Local Coordinator in your county: Find Your Local WAV Coordinator
Links to an external site.
Note: Some WAV Local Coordinators train just a few volunteers one-on-one each year, while others host larger public trainings. As a result, not all training opportunities for new volunteers will be posted on our Events page. If there isn't a local coordinator in your county, contact WAV staff at wav@extension.wisc.edu or 608.331.0173.
- Register for a Baseline Monitoring Field Training!
In-person WAV training sessions are held late April through early June and are an important part of the training that new volunteers receive. It is here that you will meet other volunteers and get guided and hands-on practice of the baseline monitoring methods. If you are completing this course in the late fall through early spring (approximately by April 15) then you are ready for this season's upcoming in-person training sessions. Check the WAV Events Page Links to an external site..
If it is early summer through early fall (approximately late June-October) our monitoring season is in progress and it is unlikely that there are additional in-person baseline training sessions to prepare you for monitoring this season. Check the WAV website frequently for other events and activities that might be of interest. For example, many of our Aquatic Invasive Species monitoring trainings and events happen statewide in July and August!
