Introductory Course Management
At some point, before students access your Canvas course, you will have the opportunity to manage some high-level course settings. Most of these elements can be managed by selecting the Settings tool on the course toolbar.
The following list identifies several of the more popular and impactful elements.
Managing the Canvas toolbar Links to an external site. - The course toolbar may contain any combination of several tools. You should consider hiding any tools that are not being used. Also, alter the arrangement of those tools for optimal effect.
Publishing the course Links to an external site. - No student can access your course until you have published it.
Extending the course access dates and privileges Links to an external site. - Some instructors want their students to be able to access and interact with their course before the official "Start" date of the course.
Showing announcements at the top of the Home page Links to an external site. - As it sounds, this feature forces Canvas to display recent announcements at the top of your course Home page.
Student View Links to an external site. - Using Student View allows you to test certain elements of your course, to ensure they look and behave properly before making them available to students.
Establishing a course grading scheme Links to an external site. - Define your own grading scale.
Setting a course image
Links to an external site. - A course image customizes the way your course appears on your students' dashboards.
