Outstanding Always prepared; original insights and probing questions; knows the syllabus; frequent, active engagement in class
Good OK preparation; often asks questions or adds insight; sometimes checks syllabus; engaged most of the time.
Adequate Sometimes prepared; occasionally contributes; lost syllabus?
Non-participant Says little or nothing in class; usually distracted; non-contributor in class discussions
Unsatisfactory Little substance in comments; distracts others; not respectful to peers; combative.
