My intention was to design an online course to improve students' learning experience. One main component of a well-designed online course is Easy Navigation. According to the Quality Matter (QM), course navigation should be "consistent, logical, and efficient" in order to facilitate "ease of use" (OM Standard 8.1). Reducing the amount of scrolling and searching makes course contents more accessible, resulting in a better overall experience for both students and faculty. It also diminishes the faculty workload.

I have designed the DS 223 course website on Canvas in a way to make navigation transparent and information accessible for students. In this regard, I incorporated images, writings, and videos into each module. The followings are some examples of the Canvas pages I have created.

Course Home Page

Students can access to the course modules and syllabus from the home page. I also added a section where students can find instructional information about Canvas and BBCU.

Modules

In this section, course contents are categorized weekly. Each week has two parts and each part includes an overview of the topic that is taught in class along with pages for related videos and "terms to know". Additional sections will be added for the quiz, assignment, and BBCU links of each synchronous session. later. Moreover, the PowerPoint of the lecture will be uploaded under each part after the synchronous session. Examples of week 3, part 1: Doors section are presented below.
