Introduction:

Welcome! This Canvas page will guide you through the Wisconsin Idea Fellowship (WIF) Application process. Be sure to look through all of the sections of this "Before you apply" module before you start your application process.

If you have questions at anytime, please reach out to Sara Gia Trongone, the WIF graduate student mentor, at trongone@wisc.edu.

Below are some basic details about the fellowship:

The Wisconsin Idea is the driving mission to ensure that the education and research at UW-Madison is used to benefit communities beyond our campus borders and to promote a two-way flow of information between communities and UW.

Wisconsin Idea Fellowships are awarded annually to undergraduate student projects working towards solving a challenge identified along with a local or global community partner. A community partner is a person, group, organization, or institution that is not affiliated with the university. Projects with community-identified project goals are given priority in the review process.

Fellowships are awarded to semester-long or year-long projects designed by an undergraduate student (or group of students) in collaboration with a community organization and a UW-Madison faculty or academic staff member.

Projects can receive up to $7,000 in total funding and students receive 3 academic credits. Student recipients are also invited to present their work at the Undergraduate Symposium in the spring semester.

On average, 5 – 10 fellowships are awarded every year. This cycle, a new WI Connect initiative will award special fellowships to projects that work with community partners in the state of Wisconsin but outside of Madison.
