What Content is Here and How to Integrate into Your Course

All of the content on this Canvas page comes from research conducted by the Rebecca M. Blank Center for Campus History. Each primary source underscores the interconnected nature of discrimination and resistance with the UW-Madison’s history, and broader histories of discrimination and resistance in United States.

Each module contains a series of recommended and alternative primary sources that correspond to an event or phenomenon on campus. Some examples include the Black Student Strike, the experience of Asian American students, and the persecution of LBGTQ+ students. Every source can also be accessed on the Public History Projects Teaching Guide page here.

There is no “right” or “wrong” way to use these sources, and we encourage educators to use whichever sources and material would be the most meaningful and relevant to their particular course, lesson, or discussion.

A description of every source, recommended discussion questions for each source, and secondary readings to contextualize the sources can be found in the teaching guides, and the link to each guide appears at the top of each module.
