Intro and Overview

The National Survey of SSI Children and Families (NSCF) is an individual-level, cross sectional data set with over 8,000 children and young adults who are current or former Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients receiving SSI as of December 2000, those who received SSI in December 1996, and a subsample of persons who had applied for benefits in 1992 or later including both those who eventually received benefits and those who did not (i.e. denied applicants). The data are representative the SSI population aged 0-17 and 18-23 in the lower 48 states not residing in Medicaid institutions.

Topics include health, functional limitations, disability status, healthcare use, expenses, education, employment, earnings, family income and assets, and health insurance.
