What to Expect

Schedule and Content

Each day will consist of:

  • In-person activities at the Pyle Center beginning at 9am and wrapping up around 4pm (see detailed agenda), including breakfast and lunch.
  • Office hours and independent work-time blocks.
  • Evening activities planned for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and noted on the agenda. Your cohort is encouraged to self-organize a plan for Wednesday.

What to Bring

  • Laptop
  • Headset

During the independent work-time blocks and office hours, you'll find it helpful to have a laptop and you may want a headset for zoom meetings with remote workshop speakers who are holding office hours or mentors who are not onsite. We'll have space at the Pyle Center for small group and independent work. We will also ask you to connect up to Zoom Links to an external site. during sessions led by remote presenters (with mics and speakers muted but cameras on) to ensure an inclusive experience that allows remote speakers to see you and better track the conversation in the room.

Plan to Engage

One of the biggest advantages of JSIT is the opportunity to meet and network with fellow scholars, mentors, and our speakers. Although it can be awkward to ask people for feedback on your ideas in progress, this is the best way to get the results you want out of this experience. You'll see several places in the agenda where we have allotted time for meetings with peers, your mentor, and office hours with speakers and instructors. To help hold yourself accountable for using these opportunities, we've created a feedback checklist. You are welcome to do more than what we have listed. This checklist outlines the minimum expectations. Download This checklist outlines the minimum expectations.

To be ready for the Workshop, we ask you to please work through all tasks in this module.
