Japanese
At UW-Madison, the first two years of Japanese study follow the GENKI textbook and workbook series Links to an external site.. GENKI, published by The Japan Times, provides a total of 23 lessons in elementary-level Japanese in all four language skill areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These 23 lessons (divided into two volumes) introduce students to a wide range of elementary grammar points, nearly 300 kanji, and approximately 1,100 vocabulary terms. Audio files for the series are available for free through the OTO Navi audio player app (Apple Store Links to an external site./Google Play Links to an external site.).
Additional language learning materials and resources are listed and available for K-12 teachers and students on the CEAS website at: https://eastasia.wisc.edu/k-12-educator-resources/ This webpage includes resources for general language study, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Tibetan.
