Abstract:

I report how a series of my five source analysis exercises led students to a deeper level of engagement with primary sources. Through the assignments, students learned to not only identify the origin, intended audience and purpose of each source, but also incorporate them to analyze historical values and limitations in understanding the topic studied. Moreover, students recognized the importance of incorporating various types of primary sources to get a fuller, clearer and balanced understanding of the past.
