Turnitin: Overview & Support Options
Why use Turnitin?
Turnitin is a powerful "originality checking" tool. (Sometimes referred to as a "plagiarism checking" tool.) When students submit assignments, Turnitin can be employed -- by the student and the instructor -- to evaluate that text against a massive, international , ever-growing collection of content databases and original sources. This includes newspapers, magazines, trade journals, news sites, online encyclopedias. Engaging Turnitin can help students become better academic authors, and help instructors catch instances of academic fraud.
Turnitin is free to UW-Madison students and faculty. It is built right into the Canvas interface. All that is required is to learn about Turnitin, and use it.
