Week 4: Club Content

  1. Ice breaker: What Scratch block am I? (5:30 - 5:45)
    1. Resource: Tips about blocks inside of Scratch
    2. Only ask one question of each person; then move on to a new person
    3. Talk with people outside your club and ask them what went well and what didn't on their first day
  2. Whole class: (5:45 - 6:00)
    1. First day experiences -- anything particularly well?  any catastrophes? do you need to do anything differently next club?
      1. Pick representative from your team different from last week 
      2. Connect to previous club: either "Similar to the previous club, we also had problems with X..." or "Unlike the previous club that experienced X, we had experience Y..."
    2. Attention getting techniques

  3. Homework Due at Start of Class:
    1. Becoming Established with Student Groups (quiz)
    2. Read portfolios from your club site

    1. Gather resources and record theme for clubs - DUE TODAY(per group)
    2. Continue personal weekly reflections
    3. Post weekly lesson plan after Week 2 club (per group)
    4. Read about PB and J (quiz)
    5. Read http://scratched.gse.harvard.edu/resources/new-frameworks-studying-and-assessing-development-computational-thinking and take "quiz"
  5. Work time with Feedback from Peer Mentors
    1. Figure out how to display pod laptop on pod display
    2. Read these tips and pick one you like (Finish by 6:15)

      2. Go to another table and use your technique with them
    3. Prepare for next club (Finish by 6:40)
      1. Look through 12-week club plan overview and Week 2 handout

    4. Role play lesson OR discuss Club Tips (6:40 until end)
      1. If role play: Practice giving lesson out-loud to others in your team
        1. Use projector; make lesson as interactive and real as possible; teammates should ask/answer questions as if they are in your club
        2. In Canvas: State which week's lesson you role played and give brief feedback to presenter or things your group will do differently

        1. Structured discussion to encourage everyone to talk:
        2. For each subtopic (e.g., Overall Tone and Goals):
          1. spend about 1 minute independently reading suggestions and picking 2 suggestions that you either:
            • agree strongly with and plan to follow in your club
            • disagree with
            • have some question about 
          2. Each person in your group shares 1 of the suggestions (try to not repeat what others said) for about 30 seconds
        3. In Canvas: Record how far your group got through the Club Tips list; summarize something that you all agreed with.
